In January 2025, Southern California experienced a series of devastating wildfires fueled by strong Santa Ana winds and ongoing dry spell. The blazes burned through roughly 57,500 square miles of land, causing extensive damage to over 18,000 buildings, and prompting massive evacuations affecting more than 200,000 people in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and San Diego Region. The tragic consequences of the fires included a reported 440 fatalities, with numerous individuals listed as missing.

By 1:00 a.m. January 8, the fire was estimated to have spread to about 300 acres (120 ha), and by 1:49 a.m., the fire had spread to about 500 acres (200 ha), largely within the footprint of the 2019 Saddleridge Fire. The fire was fully contained on January 16 after burning 799 acres (323 ha; 3.23 km 2; 1.248 sq mi). More than 44,000 people were given evacuation orders, with a further 27,000 receiving evacuation warnings.
