Xpeng to Launch Three Robotaxi Models in 2026
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, announced plans to introduce three robotaxi models in 2026 and start trial operations for the service. The company's chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, revealed these details during the 2025 AI Day event in Guangzhou.
Advanced AI Chip Technology
Each robotaxi will be equipped with four of Xpeng's in-house developed Turing AI chips, offering computing power of up to 3,000 TOPS.
Cutting-Edge AI and Operation Features
- The models will use Xpeng's second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model for adaptive operation in diverse global traffic conditions.
- No vehicle modifications or reliance on high-definition maps are required, enabling cost-effective mass production.
- Robotaxis will be capable of operating beyond limited zones, supporting cross-city and cross-border deployments worldwide.
Enhanced External Interaction
The vehicles will have external interaction features allowing pedestrians to understand the robotaxis’ intentions, such as turning or parking, by viewing actions through the windshield.
Collaboration and Ecosystem Development
Xpeng intends to release its robotaxi SDK (Software Development Kit) to foster collaboration with global partners and develop a comprehensive robotaxi ecosystem.
