Liu described the experience of working with numerous fellow actors as incredible, especially since he grew up admiring many of them. The film features a diverse ensemble, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Florence Pugh (Yelena).
A Tribute to the Superhero Genre
“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”
Liu emphasized that the movie is dedicated to fans who identified as misfits, weirdos, or underdogs growing up with comic books, offering them hope and a sense of belonging.
“For all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.”

The film is directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, with a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026.
