Severe storms have struck southern Queensland for the third consecutive day, causing significant damage in areas still recovering from weekend weather events.
The Warwick Aerodrome sustained heavy damage as strong winds tore through the area late on Monday afternoon. Hangars and aircraft bore the brunt of the storm, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in losses.
"Someone described it as a mini tornado … it's pushed the hangar doors on the western side right in," said Dan Papacek, whose hangar was severely damaged around 4:30 pm on Monday.
Of the three aircraft affected, at least one is considered a total loss, adding to the costly aftermath.
"It really took us by surprise," Mr. Papacek added.
Michael Zupanc from Warwick Gliding Club reported that high winds ripped iron sheets from buildings, which then slammed into other structures, causing catastrophic damage to hangars and aircraft.
The Bureau of Meteorology anticipates that weather conditions will ease across south-east Queensland on Tuesday as a large cloud band moves offshore.
Intense storms have caused extensive damage to Warwick Aerodrome, including hangars and aircraft, with weather expected to improve as the storm system moves away.
