On November 3, seven modern Škoda 52T trams began service in Prague, enhancing the city's public transportation with higher capacity, air conditioning, and updated passenger information systems.
The first Škoda 52T trams entered regular service on line 12, running from Lehovec to Sídliště Barrandov. This launch marks the start of a broader deployment, with 20 new trams expected to operate in Prague by year-end.
The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) aims to gradually increase the number of new trams on line 12 and other routes served by the Hloubětín depot.
“The first seven 52T trams will make up roughly a third of the vehicles operating on line 12,” said DPP communications manager Daniel Šabík. “By December, all 20 trams from the initial order will be in service.”
Before entering service, the Škoda 52T trams completed a trial period in September, covering 20,000 kilometers with passengers while undergoing approval by the Czech Railway Authority. After successful certification, the first seven trams obtained their operational licenses.
