Man Utd Starlet Called Up to Australia's Senior Team

Manchester United youngster James Overy has been selected for the Australia national team for upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia, showcasing several new squad members.

Socceroos manager Tony Popovic included 11 newcomers, with United academy talent Overy continuing his rapid rise after impressive performances at the U20 World Cup.

Early Career and Recent Progress

Overy, turning 18 this weekend, joined Manchester United in summer 2024 on a scholarship before signing a professional contract in July.

In May, Ruben Amorim integrated Overy and other young players into first-team training at Carrington ahead of the Premier League match against Chelsea.

After arriving, Overy suffered an eight-month injury layoff but returned to play for the Under-18s in February, according to Manchester Evening News.

Current Season and Praise

He has been a key figure in Darren Fletcher's Under-18 team and played for the Under-21s in Premier League 2 and the National League Cup.

“It’s been really hard for James because obviously he’s made the move from Australia and he’s a terrific lad, first of all,” said former Under-18s manager Adam Lawrence on MUTV.

Lawrence commended Overy’s resilience in overcoming this lengthy injury.
