Production companies centered on filmmakers or actors play an essential role in the UK industry. London-based Complete Fiction was established in 2018 by Nira Park, former head of Big Talk Productions, alongside filmmakers Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, and former Big Talk executive Rachael Prior.
Rachael Prior serves as creative director, managing the company’s slate. Lawrence Cochran from Moonage Pictures recently joined as senior creative executive.
“We just had the urge to start again,” Park explains about launching the new company despite their prior success at Big Talk with hits like Wright’s Shaun Of The Dead and Cornish’s Attack The Block.
Park adds that their motivation was to create a boutique company with the same working vibe they enjoyed in the early days. Prior emphasizes the aim to bring Wright and Cornish into the business as partners, along with opportunities to expand into television.
Complete Fiction’s television slate currently exceeds its film projects, which mainly focus on Wright’s and Cornish’s feature films.
The company recently launched Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man, starring Glen Powell and co-produced with Simon Kinberg’s Kinberg Genre for Paramount Pictures.
Production is expected next year on two highly anticipated sequels.
Author’s summary: Complete Fiction illustrates the growing trend of director-led boutique production companies blending film and television projects to maintain creative control and foster collaboration.
