Former NFL player Antonio Brown waived his right to extradition on Friday as he prepares to return to Miami to face attempted murder charges. These charges relate to an incident this past spring where Brown allegedly fired shots at a crowded event.
Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai by marshals and handed over to the Newark Port Authority. He was then placed in Essex County Jail, where he remained after the hearing, awaiting transfer to Florida authorities. The timing of his transfer remains unclear. Although it’s unknown how long Brown stayed in Dubai, he has posted multiple times from there on social media over recent months.
According to an arrest warrant describing the May 16 shooting, Brown allegedly took a handgun from a security staff member after a boxing match and fired two shots at a man with whom he had previously fought.
The victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, reported that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
Brown faces a second-degree attempted murder charge, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to 15 years and a fine reaching $10,000. Court documents do not specify whether Brown has legal representation.
Antonio Brown waived extradition to face serious charges in Florida after being held in New Jersey, with legal proceedings now pending further action by state authorities.
