India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, is set to face Mitchell Marsh’s Australia in the fourth T20 International of the five-match series at Carrara Stadium, also known as the People First Stadium, in Gold Coast on Thursday.
The series stands evenly at 1-1 after three games. Australia claimed the second T20I, India took the third, while the opening match was abandoned due to rain.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav has shown flashes of his classic batting form with two promising starts in the first and third games. With a month-long gap before India’s next assignment against South Africa, he will aim to convert those starts into a substantial innings.
Vice-captain Shubman Gill, meanwhile, is searching for consistency after a series of modest scores on the tour — 10, 9, 24, 37 not out, 5, and 15. His only fluent knock came in Canberra, where he shared a solid partnership with Suryakumar.
“Gill has been troubled by fuller deliveries with a hint of movement,” noted team analysts, observing that he hasn’t quite displayed the composure that defines his usual style.
Australia will miss Travis Head, who has been released from the squad to feature in the Sheffield Shield in preparation for The Ashes. Earlier, Josh Hazlewood was also released for the same reason, slightly weakening the visiting lineup.
The Gold Coast encounter promises intensity, with both teams striving to seize the series advantage amid looming rain threats and form concerns on both sides.
