Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf has stepped away from the Toronto Marlies as he considers his future with the team. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared these updates on his podcast 32 Thoughts and on Saturday Headlines.
Friedman explained that Kampf is frustrated by not playing in the NHL and has taken some time off from the club. This decision might lead to a contract termination agreement between Kampf and the Maple Leafs.
“I don’t know exactly what was said…but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies [Leafs’ AHL affiliate] with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.”
Friedman noted that Kampf was not with the Marlies for a recent American Hockey League game in Chicago and is unlikely to play in the near future.
“The Toronto Marlies are playing tonight in Chicago in the American Hockey League, and he’s not with them. I was told there’s a possibility he could play tomorrow, but I think that’s unlikely.”
The forward is currently caught in a roster and salary cap crunch, which contributed to his growing frustration.
Author's summary: David Kampf, frustrated by limited NHL play and team constraints, has stepped away from the Marlies, potentially leading to a contract termination with the Maple Leafs.
