The Minnesota Wild sought a third straight victory, twice holding one-goal leads and managing to tie the game 3-3. However, the Carolina Hurricanes countered every effort, ultimately winning 4-3.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t find a way to win the hockey game, but it was a hard-fought battle by both teams,” Wild coach John Hynes said. “They had pushes and surges, and we had pushes and surges. But, unfortunately, we weren’t the team to win it tonight.”
Filip Gustavsson, starting in goal for the 12th time this season, experienced a tough beginning as Carolina scored four goals on the first eight shots against him. Later, he settled and finished with 23 saves. “This is a really good team we’re playing against, and we’re matching up against them pretty good today,” Gustavsson said, adding that he didn’t do anything special to regain his form.
Minnesota's record dropped to 5-7-3 after the loss, and they remain winless (0-6-1) when trailing after the first period. Despite earning the first power play of the game, they were unable to register a shot on goal during that opportunity.
Summary: Despite competitive play and key goals, the Wild could not hold off the Hurricanes’ persistent comeback, resulting in a frustrating 4-3 defeat.
