How New Coach Carr Is Driving Port Adelaide's Remodel

Josh Carr, preparing for his first official training session as Port Adelaide's head coach, is optimistic about the club's new direction. He understands that leadership in modern football is about collaboration and collective intelligence.

“There's a license for everyone in this building to explore and make everything better,” Carr said at his AFL club's Alberton headquarters. “And in the end, whoever has got the best ideas, we make that work.”

Recently, Carr finalized the team’s off-field structure, completing a new era for Port Adelaide with a ten-member coaching panel under his leadership. The setup also includes newly appointed football manager Ben Rutten and a revamped fitness department. Out of the twelve staff members involved, only two held the same roles during the 2025 season.

“I have a pretty good idea on the people that we're bringing in,” Carr said, who replaced long-time coach Ken Hinkley. “I don't think it's going to be a huge task bringing us together. Because I know they’re all selfless in their approach, eager to improve, and focused on doing what’s best for the team.”

He noted that the coaching group recently spent significant time building cohesion and strengthening their collective purpose.
