During the summer, speculation grew that Chris Paul might join the Los Angeles Clippers and then retire after the upcoming season. With 21 seasons behind him, the veteran guard confirmed to Jemele Hill that he was indeed considering playing only one more year.
“Yeah, I’m thinking about playing one final season,” Chris Paul said in his interview with Jemele Hill.
However, his later comments implied the decision remains uncertain. Speaking with Andscape, Paul explained that he is still weighing his options and hasn’t made up his mind yet.
“No. I’m just saying all this stuff is part of my decision-making, part of my thought process,” Paul said. “I don’t know yet.”
Teammates continue to feel Paul’s influence. John Collins described the veteran as a constant motivator, guiding players on and off the court. Rookie players, including Kobe Brown and Jordan Miller, have also praised Paul’s mentorship throughout the preseason.
“It’s always about communicating,” Paul said. “We’ve got a great group of young guys who work really hard. Sometimes the only way you can learn is by playing.”
Even after games, Paul takes time to offer pointers and reflections to the younger members of the team, reinforcing his role as a leader and teacher.
Chris Paul remains uncertain about retirement, balancing mentorship and performance as he contemplates whether the 2025–26 season will be his last in the NBA.
