Defense attorneys for Lindsay Clancy have submitted a motion this week requesting a change of venue for her upcoming trial, arguing that extensive media coverage and strong local sentiment in Plymouth County prevent a fair judicial process.
Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother, faces charges on three counts each of murder and strangulation for the deaths of her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy. The trial is currently set to begin on February 9 in Plymouth County.
Lead defense attorney Kevin Reddington is pressing for the proceedings to be relocated to Boston. He argues that local publicity and community reactions have deeply influenced public opinion, making impartial evaluation of the evidence impossible.
“The unavoidable conclusion is that Lindsay Clancy cannot be given a fair trial in Plymouth County,” Reddington stated in the motion.
The motion highlights the impact of “extensive media coverage” and “prejudicial information contained in the coverage.” It also cites “community disapproval the coverage has evoked” as further evidence of bias.
Just a week earlier, Reddington filed another motion seeking to postpone the trial from February 9 to May 11, aiming to allow more preparation time for the defense.
The defense of Lindsay Clancy argues that widespread media influence and public scrutiny in Plymouth County make a fair trial impossible, seeking to move the case to Boston for impartial judgment.
