Robbie Williams has resurrected the iconic TV show The Word for the music video of his new single, Pretty Face, from his upcoming album Britpop. This 1990s show was a cultural phenomenon that aired on Channel 4 on Friday nights from 1990 to 1995, featuring unconventional musical guests in a prime-time slot.
Although Williams never performed on The Word during its original run, he recreates the era and atmosphere in the Pretty Face video by traveling back in time to 1995.
“This is my ‘DeLorean Moment’ back to 1995 .. The Word was the late-night gateway to so many – Nirvana, Oasis, Happy Mondays… If BRITPOP is the album I would have made, then THIS would have been the TV show…. now a (virtual) reality.”
Williams's tribute captures the spirit of a landmark show and aligns it with the Britpop movement represented in his new work.
Summary: Robbie Williams nostalgically revives The Word for his new single's video, connecting his upcoming Britpop album with the 1990s music scene's legacy.
