Former American football star Antonio Brown has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to the United States to face an attempted murder charge, according to US police. The extradition concluded a months-long effort after Brown fled to Dubai.
Miami Police spokesperson Michael Vega confirmed that Brown was apprehended by US Marshals in Dubai and extradited on Thursday. He is currently held in New Jersey before being moved to a Miami jail. The arrest relates to a May incident involving gunfire outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami.
At the time of the incident, Brown posted on X that he had been “jumped” and “temporarily detained” by police, later released. After an arrest warrant was issued in June, Brown called the charges “fake” on X. He appeared in Dubai the same month, sharing a photo at the BUKA Boxing store but misleadingly tagged the location as Iran.
The US and the UAE do not have an extradition treaty, a factor that previously complicated legal proceedings, including for Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.
