During the Miss World Chile 2025 semifinals, 27-year-old Ignacia Fernandez stunned the audience with a fierce death metal performance drawn from her own band, Decessus. Known both as a model and a musician, Fernandez co-founded the progressive death metal group in 2020.
She took the stage in an elegant floor-length black gown alongside guitarist Carlos Palma. The song opened with heavy grooves and sharp, djent-style riffs, featuring Fernandez’s whispered vocals before erupting into a powerful guttural growl that brought the crowd to its feet in applause.
Her daring performance not only captivated viewers but also secured her a spot in the upcoming Miss World Chile finals. The moment became a unique crossover between metal culture and traditional beauty pageantry.
“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,” Fernandez wrote on Instagram. “Being able to express it onstage at Chilevision and Miss World Chile was an opportunity I deeply value. It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others.”
Founded in 2020, Decessus is a Chilean progressive death metal band blending brutal technical elements with emotional intensity. Through the Miss World Chile platform, Fernandez challenged stereotypes about women in metal and redefined what performance artistry can mean on national television.
Ignacia Fernandez impressed Chile by merging elegance and death metal, redefining pageant norms and proving that passion for art and identity has no boundaries.
