Ignacia Fernández, a 27-year-old model and contestant in Miss World Chile 2025, surprised the audience during the semifinal round on November 2 by performing a song from her progressive death metal band, Decessus.
Defying traditional beauty pageant norms, Fernández combined elegance and musical brutality, rocking a ball gown while delivering a powerful live performance alongside her bandmate Carlos Palma.
“Television lends itself to people making memes and making fun of you,” Fernández said in an interview with the Chilean newspaper Las Últimas Noticias. “The song I sang is by my band. It’s my job, my life.”
The performance earned Fernández a standing ovation and praise from the judges, with one commenting he had never witnessed anything like it in a beauty contest before.
Representing the Las Condes district, Fernández aims to advance to the final held on November 9 and hopes to represent Chile in the Miss Universe pageant.
Her unique blend of beauty and death metal talent could bring a refreshing new image to the global stage.
