The USA Eagles began their Autumn International Tour facing Scotland at Murrayfield in Edinburgh. Despite a strong defensive effort early on, Scotland set the pace, maintaining momentum and scoring repeatedly throughout the match.
“The first 15 minutes of the game told the story, it gave Scotland a lot of confidence and created a little shell-shock for our boys. As a developing team, we know the last 10 or 15 minutes of the game are going to be difficult as well,” said Head Coach Scott Lawrence.
“You could look at that game and say everything went wrong, but there are some things that became very clear. Scotland was clinical and exploited a couple areas, and exploited them a number of times. So there are now some common elements that we can take away, where we can show up going forward.”
“It’s been since September 14th since these guys were last in a competitive environment, so we always knew this week would be a challenge.”
Captain Jason Damm commented, “Obviously, that’s a big loss, but when you approach things with the same mindset, whether you win or lose, you don’t want to get too high or too low. We’re just trying to find the fellas, bring them together, and just keep focusing on what we need to, come in tight and stand together. Don’t let the highs get too high and the lows get too low. You don’t find those up and downs affect you as much as maybe people think.”
The match highlighted both Scotland’s sharp execution and the challenges the USA Eagles face as they rebuild and gain experience in competitive play.
Summary: Scotland's strong execution and the USA Eagles' developing team status shaped the match, emphasizing valuable lessons for future growth despite the tough loss.
