Russians are circulating artificially created videos on TikTok intended to demoralize Ukrainian society and push the message of “peace at any cost,” according to a report by Ukrinform citing the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
The videos show “ordinary Ukrainians” on the street being asked about the war, mobilization, or peace talks. All clips have a consistent visual style and feature pessimistic responses, according to the CCD:
"Videos are circulating on TikTok in which ‘ordinary Ukrainians’ on the street are asked about their views on the war, mobilization, or peace talks. These clips, created with AI, have a uniform visual style, and those surveyed express exclusively pessimistic messages."
The characters in these videos oppose mobilization, call the war “senseless,” accuse the government of “blocking peace,” and claim that retaking occupied territories is “unnecessary.”
Deepfake-detection tools confirm that all these videos are entirely AI-generated. This emphasizes Russia’s growing use of artificial intelligence technologies as part of its information warfare campaign against Ukraine.
“The goal of such videos is to demoralize Ukrainian society and reduce its willingness to resist by promoting the ‘peace at any cost’ narrative.”
The aim is to instill hopelessness and despair among Ukrainians, weakening their resolve.
Ukrinform highlights that Russia is increasingly relying on AI-driven manipulation tactics, marking a new and evolving information threat to Ukraine.
Russia deploys AI-generated TikTok videos to spread defeatist messages and undermine Ukraine’s morale by promoting a “peace at any cost” agenda, reflecting a new phase in information warfare.
