Lucy Liu has embraced a fresh look with a lob haircut, debuting it in the trailer for her new drama, Rosemead. The style features a short, side-parted cut just above her collarbone.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The story follows Irene (Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they cope with his schizophrenia diagnosis.
The film is based on a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled
“A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.”
This role marks a notable shift for Liu, known primarily for lighter, action-oriented roles in shows like Ally McBeal and films such as Charlie's Angels. She shared with Variety about the project:
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together. In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu also discussed her attraction to projects like Rosemead in an interview with Parade, highlighting her interest in exploring more dramatic and complex roles.
Author's summary: Lucy Liu’s new dramatic film Rosemead and her fresh lob haircut symbolize an evolution in her acting, tackling darker, more complex themes than her past work.
