Harvard women’s soccer traveled to New York City on Saturday to face the Columbia Lions, falling 2–1 after a tense 90-minute matchup that ended the team's postseason hopes.
Harvard entered its final game with determination to leave everything on the field. Earlier in the season, the Crimson faced challenges — trying out new lineups, managing injuries, and fighting moments of inconsistency — which raised doubts about their standing in the competitive Ivy League field.
As the conference season advanced, Harvard began to climb the rankings and positioned itself as a contender for the Ivy League title. However, a heartbreaking senior night loss to the University of Pennsylvania the previous weekend forced the team to enter the Columbia match desperate for at least one point to sustain its championship hopes.
Columbia came into the match in similar circumstances, following a defeat to Princeton and seeking redemption on its home field.
“We wanted to leave our heart on the field,” said a team representative.
