Halloween Spirit Haunts Niagara-on-the-Lake with Spook-tacular Decorations

Each autumn, as North America embraces the spooky season, homes and streets fill with eerie sights and playful fright. In Niagara-on-the-Lake, residents have gone all out, transforming their neighborhoods into scenes straight from a haunted tale.

Local homeowners J.P. and Corri Konik, who live on Sentry Circle near Garrison Village, have been decorating for Halloween for more than a decade. Every year they turn their property into a chilling attraction for trick-or-treaters and curious passersby.

“I still have animatronics that need to come out, I have fog machines, black lights, strobe lights — I still have a lot of stuff as far as that goes,” said J.P.

The couple’s yard includes tombstones marked with contemporary celebrity names such as U.S. President Donald Trump and the Undertaker. Visitors can also spot a comically morbid Maple Leafs fan skeleton still awaiting a Stanley Cup victory, as well as a pergola adorned with faux severed hands, bats, and chains. Last year, between 50 and 100 trick-or-treaters visited, though rain reduced the usual turnout.

J.P. and Corri describe Halloween as their “birthday and Christmas,” a tradition that fuels their creativity and brings the community together every October.
