IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 3 trailer reveals a connection to another Stephen King book

Andy and Barbara Muschietti's IT: Welcome to Derry may be a prequel based on an existing franchise, but it is quickly proving to be one of the more effective adaptations of Stephen King's IT universe. Two episodes have already aired, each receiving generally positive reviews.

The third episode is scheduled for release on November 9, returning to the show’s regular schedule after a short delay for the Halloween special. A new trailer for the upcoming episode has recently debuted, and besides the chilling atmosphere, it includes a notable nod to another story from Stephen King’s world.

Stephen King connections and Easter eggs

The series is said to include several references to other King works. Previous teasers already featured clever Easter eggs, such as a bus labeled “Shawshank State Prison” and the appearance of Dick Hallorann — a character recognized from The Shining. The trailer for Episode 3 explicitly highlights one of these interlinked references.

Current plot thread

So far, the story has centered around the eerie deaths of three children killed by a monstrous infant inside a local theater. Theater owner Hank Grogan is unjustly accused and arrested for the crimes, leaving the town in a state of fear and confusion.

“Apart from the horror theatrics, the trailer also revealed a special reference to another Stephen King adaptation.”
Author’s summary

The third episode’s trailer deepens IT: Welcome to Derry’s connections to Stephen King’s universe, blending horror storytelling with meaningful Easter eggs from his wider mythos.
