AI is not wiping out all entry-level jobs, but it's changing the game and fresh jobseekers need to level up

AI is Changing Entry-Level Jobs, Not Eliminating Them

Experts agree that while AI is not erasing all junior roles, it is compelling fresh graduates to enhance their skills and demonstrate what machines still cannot replicate: human judgment.

Internship Experience Highlighting AI's Impact

K Sudhiksha, 23, a communications graduate, shared her experience during a six-month public relations internship that ended prematurely. Officially, the termination was attributed to a company restructure, but she believed AI played a significant role.

"I was spending most of my time running prompts on ChatGPT. We were all encouraged to do it. I could do my tasks faster, but it also made me feel creatively stunted."

Sudhiksha had joined the PR firm in July with the expectation of learning how to write press releases and pitch stories. Instead, much of her daily work involved using AI tools to create initial drafts of media releases and summarize weekly news for clients.

Although the firm advised verifying AI-generated content carefully, Sudhiksha found the experience lacking in creativity and hands-on learning.

"It made the experience feel hollow as I had hoped for a more hands-on, creative process that would let me flex my own brain muscles."

Three months into her internship, her role was made redundant.

Key Takeaway

AI tools are reshaping entry-level positions, pushing newcomers to develop uniquely human skills beyond what AI can offer.

Author's summary: AI is transforming junior roles by encouraging fresh graduates to sharpen their human judgment and creativity, which remain irreplaceable by machines.
