Reghan Grimes needed just five points to join the 1,000-point club this season. Instead, the Tennessee Tech senior scored 24 points to lead all scorers Monday night and help the Golden Eagles secure a 92-67 victory against the University of the Cumberlands at the Eblen Center.
The Golden Eagles shot nearly 50 percent overall, connecting on 30 of 61 attempts, including 10 of 22 from three-point range and 22 of 33 at the free-throw line. However, the team faced challenges with foul trouble, committing 33 fouls and having seven players close to disqualification.
Seven Golden Eagles players were on the brink of their fifth and disqualifying foul.
The foul issues sent the visiting Patriots to the free-throw line 50 times, where they converted 32 shots (64%).
Joy Kendrick led Cumberlands (3-0) with 21 points, making 12 of 15 free throws, though she struggled from the field, going 4 of 15.
