Mike Smith, known internationally for his role as Bubbles in the popular mockumentary Trailer Park Boys, has withdrawn from his role as managing director of the show’s production company. This follows a sexual assault charge filed against him in Canada.
According to court documents from Nova Scotia Provincial Court, the 52-year-old actor was charged on October 2 regarding an alleged assault that happened on December 30, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The allegations remain unproven in court.
Smith has been prohibited from contacting the alleged victim—whose identity is protected by a publication ban—as well as from going near their school, workplace, or residence. This information was first reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) earlier this month.
"We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognise how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case."
The company confirmed to CBC News that Smith has "stepped away" from his management duties while the legal process is ongoing.
Mike Smith has temporarily left his leadership role at Trailer Park Boys Inc. as he faces a legal case for an alleged assault from 2017, highlighting the seriousness with which the company views such accusations.
