Mike Smith, best known for his role as Bubbles on the Canadian mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault. The 53-year-old actor faces allegations related to an incident from 2017.
Smith was charged on October 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, according to court documents obtained by CBC News. The alleged assault reportedly took place in December 2017 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Smith has been ordered by the court not to contact the victim, whose identity remains protected by a publication ban.
Trailer Park Boys Inc., the company responsible for the show’s production, merchandise, and streaming service, released a statement acknowledging the situation. They confirmed that Smith has “stepped away” from his role as managing director while the matter is addressed.
"We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved."
The company added that, out of respect for the legal process, they will not comment further on the case.
