According to the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service, Smith is scheduled for arraignment in November. Court documents state the charge stems from an alleged incident on December 30, 2017, near Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The prosecution service confirmed it will seek a publication ban on any details that could identify the victim, as required by the Criminal Code of Canada.
Trailer Park Boys, Inc., the production company behind the show, acknowledged awareness of the allegation. Mike Smith has temporarily stepped down from his role as the company's managing director.
It is unclear whether Smith will appear personally in court or be represented by his lawyer.
