Karrueche Tran, the Emmy Award-winning actress and beauty entrepreneur, is stepping into a new artistic realm as she takes on the role of a platinum-selling rapper in Lifetime’s upcoming film Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love, premiering Saturday, November 8.
The movie follows Charlisa “Charlie” Jones, portrayed by Tran, a bold and confident artist known for her headline-grabbing persona and blazing lyrics. After serving time in prison, Charlie begins court-ordered community service under Pastor Kyrus Owens, played by Mark J.P. Hood — a passionate minister raising funds to build a new home for his congregation.
Though they come from different worlds, a powerful connection forms between Charlie and Pastor Owens. As their relationship deepens, members of his church start to question his devotion, while Charlie wrestles with reconciling her daring image and her yearning for redemption.
The story explores faith, forgiveness, and fame, giving Tran one of her most musically adventurous roles to date.
“I’m not musically inclined in any way,” Karrueche said with a laugh during the Raising Cane’s Giant Pumpkin Unveiling Event in Hollywood. “But it was a great challenge. I studied a rapper named Lola Brooke, I prepared myself, and I did it.”
Karrueche Tran embraces a bold new role as a rapper in Preach, Pray, Love, showcasing personal growth, faith, and transformation through performance and preparation.
