Pete Davidson Praises the 'Infinitely More Talented' Eddie Murphy: 'Gets What I'm Going Through'

Pete Davidson Praises Eddie Murphy's Talent and Understanding

Pete Davidson expressed admiration for fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum and co-star Eddie Murphy, calling him “insanely talented” and appreciating that Murphy "gets what I’m going through," in a recent interview with People.

Shared Experiences and Personal Bonds

Davidson highlighted their similarities, especially being among the youngest cast members on SNL and the impact of losing their fathers at a young age, which they said influenced their paths into comedy.

“The thing that’s really cool about Eddie is we were both some of the youngest cast members ever... Our fathers both passed when we were [young], … and it’s why we got into comedy.”

Mutual Respect and Guidance

While acknowledging Murphy’s greater achievements and talent, Davidson valued the advice he received from him and the unique understanding Murphy offered, especially related to their age and life timeline.

“I’m not by any means saying that I did the same things as him, because he was infinitely more talented and did way more s–t than I did, but it’s nice to just get advice from someone who literally gets what I’m going through.”

Experience Working on “The Pickup”

The actor described working with Murphy on their 2025 film The Pickup as “a blast.” Davidson shared how surreal the opportunity felt, imagining how excited his younger self would be.

“If ten-year-old Pete knew that this would happen, he’d be like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was one of those I couldn’t believe, and I still can’t believe it.”

Directed by Tim Story, the heist comedy brought together Davidson and Murphy in a unique collaboration this year.
