Where Baton Rouge Area Schools Stand After First LHSAA Classification Meeting
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) held its first classification meeting on Thursday to review appeals and determine class placements for high schools in the Baton Rouge area for the 2026–2028 cycle.
Key Highlights of the Meeting
- The meeting was relatively brief as the board considered schools’ appeals to either move up or down in classification.
- Five schools submitted appeals: Peabody, Vandebilt Catholic, Anacoco, Pickering, and Plainview.
- No schools from the Baton Rouge metro area appealed their classification.
Changes in Classifications
Class 4A
- Scotlandville will move down from 5A.
- Madison Prep will move up from 3A.
Class 3A
- Belaire, West Feliciana, and Istrouma will move down from 4A.
- Lutcher will also move down from 4A, though it competes in a different district.
- Baker will move up from 2A.
Class 2A
- Donaldsonville will move down from 3A.
- Doyle, which only fields a junior varsity football team, will drop from 3A to 2A.
Class 1A
- East Feliciana and Capitol will each move down from 2A.
“We have a target date, no later than Monday morning, to have that out to membership,” said Michael Federico, the LHSAA assistant executive director, noting that staff will begin forming districts on Friday morning.
