U.S. curler Korey Dropkin embracing the moment: “Olympic trials come with the Olympic aura”

After securing a place in the Olympic mixed doubles event for Milano Cortina 2026, Korey Dropkin is now turning his attention to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Taking place from November 11–16, the trials will determine who represents the country at the final qualifier for the men’s team event in December.

“One of the big things that my dad always told me was get the reps in,”

Dropkin shared this during a media session at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee summit in New York in late October. He was responding to a question about the best advice he received as a child and whether he still applies it today.

For the 30-year-old athlete, this advice has taken on a very real meaning lately. Since January 2025, Dropkin has been working toward securing Olympic qualification for both men’s and mixed doubles curling events for the United States, with mixed outcomes.

Earlier this year, Dropkin ended John Shuster’s long national winning streak, earning the opportunity to compete at the 2025 World Men’s Curling Championships in Moose Jaw and potentially claim one of the top eight quota spots for the Olympics. However, he finished 11th with a 4-8 record, falling short of his goal. As a result, the U.S. did not secure an automatic berth and will now rely on the last-chance qualification event to reach Cortina.

Author’s Summary

Korey Dropkin stays determined after a tough season, preparing to lead the U.S. curling team through Olympic trials and the decisive qualification path for Milano Cortina 2026.
