KIOTI GSOC Tahoe Notebook: Homan Extends Dominant Streak Against Canadian Teams

Rachel Homan defeated Kaitlyn Lawes 8-3 Thursday night at the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe, extending her team’s winning streak to 30 consecutive games against Canadian clubs.

Homan’s Continued Dominance

Rachel Homan and her Ottawa-based team keep finding new ways to secure victories over other Canadian teams. The recent win against Winnipeg’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes marked their 30th straight victory against compatriots and an impressive 80-2 record since the start of the 2023-24 season.

Game Highlights

The match wasn’t without challenges. In the third end, Homan capitalized on a crucial break, stealing two points when Lawes came up light and tight. Later, in the seventh end, Homan made a daring shot to score a deuce. She drove Lawes’s stone out the back, which clipped a rock outside the house and bumped another Homan stone into the rings to score two points.

“Yeah, getting two there was huge,” said Sarah Wilkes, lead stones thrower for Team Homan. “Going into that end, we kind of talked about what was ideal. Being forced was probably the least ideal out of all the situations. Definitely got a little lucky with the way we got the two, but it was a huge momentum swing for sure."

The Tahoe Blue Event Center, located on the Nevada side of the border, is a place where such risky shots often pay off.

Final Moments

Lawes had the hammer going into the final end, trailing 6-3, and needed to pull off a last-minute miracle shot.

Author’s summary: Rachel Homan’s team strengthened their exceptional record against Canadian curling opponents with a strategic and sometimes fortunate victory over Kaitlyn Lawes.
