The inquiry into the shocking discovery of a body cut in two in Fédry, Haute-Saône, has expanded internationally. A 39-year-old French woman was arrested on Sunday in the Swiss canton of Vaud and is now held in pretrial detention.
Swiss authorities launched a criminal investigation against the woman. According to Vaud police, she lived in Sainte-Croix, close to the French border, in the apartment of a 75-year-old man who disappeared on October 31.
Swiss investigators suspect a connection between the missing man and the dismembered body discovered on Saturday along the Saône River in France.
"Initial findings suggest that the victim could be the missing Swiss national. However, formal identification tests are still underway."
The body, found near Vesoul in Fédry, was dressed only in underwear and cut at the waist. It was coated with a white substance, likely quicklime, which is commonly used to conceal DNA trace evidence.
French and Swiss officials are collaborating closely to reconstruct the timeline and determine culpability in this exceptionally violent case.
