A New Twist from Douglas Laing

Douglas Laing, the independent Scottish bottler and whisky maker, surprises fans with a new edition of its Timorous Beastie line. Known for its sweet Highland character, the whisky now gets an unexpected smoky edge.

The Transformation

This release, called Timorous Beastie Phantom Smoke, marks the first time the Highland malt has been peated. While it remains a blend of Highland single malts, careful aging in Crocodile Casks adds a unique depth. These barrels are named for their deeply charred interiors—patterns reminiscent of crocodile skin.

A Blend of Fire and Smoke

Alongside the heavy char, a lightly peated whisky has been introduced, lending a delicate smoky layer that balances the traditional sweetness of the Highland style.

“Scott Morrison, Senior Brand Manager at Douglas Laing, says this bold move shows a different side to the beloved little mouse.”
