The Government of Canada has updated its travel advisory for the United States, cautioning travelers about potential disruptions due to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown.
According to the advisory issued on November 11, travelers may face delays, flight cancellations, and longer wait times as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reduces domestic flight operations.
“You may experience flight delays and cancellations, as well as longer wait times at airports. Contact your airline to understand if your travel plans are affected.”
On November 7, the FAA cut flights at 40 airports across the country due to a shortage of air traffic controllers caused by the shutdown. The agency’s “Core 30” high-traffic airports are most affected, including New York City’s three main hubs, as well as airports in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
Additional airports in Anchorage, Indianapolis, Portland (Oregon), and Ontario (California) may also experience disruptions, according to CNN.
The shutdown has forced around 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers and 13,000 air traffic controllers to continue working without pay. Despite this, safety and control operations remain active at reduced capacity.
President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that there could soon be an end to the government shutdown, though no specific date was provided.
