Avs Captain Gabriel Landeskog Scores His First of the 2025-26 Season

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog scored his first official goal of the 2025–26 NHL season during the second period of a game against the Anaheim Ducks. The moment was a relief for Landeskog, marking his first goal that officially counted after two previous disallowed attempts.

Defenseman Sam Malinski initiated the play with a shot from the blue line, breaking his stick. Valeri Nichushkin recovered the puck and fired it again, forcing Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal to make a save. Landeskog seized the rebound and scored at 8:23 of the second period, putting the Avalanche ahead 2–1 against the second-ranked team in the Western Conference.

The home crowd erupted in celebration when the goal was confirmed, enthusiastically chanting the captain’s nickname, “Landy.”

“It was nice to move on. I think it’s my second-longest goal drought in my career. So it was nice to just be done with it.”
“I’ve tried to just focus on my game and what I do, on a shift-to-shift basis, and the outcome is what it is. I try not to focus on the outcome, just kind of surrender that and focus on what I can do on a shift-to-shift basis. But having said that, obviously you’d like to go home and know that you at least got one on the score sheet, and then move forward with it. So my son will be happy in the morning when he wakes up to the news.”

Landeskog had previously scored against the Dallas Stars during the playoffs last year, but this was his first regular-season goal since March 5, 2022.

Author’s Summary:

Gabriel Landeskog ended a long scoring drought with his first official goal of the 2025–26 season, delighting Avalanche fans and his family alike.
