The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers split the top two spots in the Atlantic Division standings on Thursday night.
The Bruins won 3-2 at home against the New York Islanders, while the Panthers lost 3-2 at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Bruins moved into first place in the division with 82 points, while the Panthers dropped to second place with 79 points.
"It was a big win for us," said Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy. "We needed to get back to playing how we've been playing all season."
The Bruins' top line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak combined for two goals and two assists in the win.
"Those three are a force to be reckoned with," said Islanders coach Barry Trotz. "They're a big reason why the Bruins are where they are in the standings."
The Panthers, meanwhile, had their five-game winning streak snapped by the Lightning.
"We played a great game, but we just couldn't get the bounces to go our way," said Panthers coach Joel Quenneville.
The Panthers' top line of Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Mike Hoffman combined for two goals and two assists in the loss.
"Those three are a great line, and they're a big reason why we're where we are in the standings," said Lightning coach Jon Cooper.
