Jasmine Crockett Hit With Ethics Complaint Over Failure To Disclose Stock Holdings

Jasmine Crockett Faces Ethics Complaint Over Undisclosed Stock Holdings

Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas may have violated the Ethics in Government Act by concealing ownership of stock in at least 25 companies from her congressional financial disclosures, according to a complaint reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon.

As a Texas state legislator, Crockett reported holding shares in 28 different firms during 2021, including those in the pharmaceutical, fossil fuel, technology, automobile, and cannabis sectors. However, in the same year’s congressional disclosure, she omitted 25 of these holdings, several of which could have benefited from legislation she proposed in Congress.

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog organization, filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct. FACT argues that Crockett’s incomplete reporting may represent a violation of federal ethics law.

“When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,” said Kendra Arnold, executive director of FACT, in a statement to the Free Beacon.

Potential Legal Consequences

Under the Ethics in Government Act, knowingly submitting false or misleading financial disclosures can result in criminal penalties, including imprisonment. The case is expected to prompt closer scrutiny of Crockett’s financial transparency and compliance with federal ethics rules.

Author’s Summary: Texas congresswoman Jasmine Crockett faces scrutiny for allegedly concealing stocks in 25 firms, raising concerns of an ethics breach under federal transparency laws.
