How SEA is Spreading the Joy of Reading, One Book at a Time

If you want to relax and escape into a story while waiting for your flight or after a long trip, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) offers an inviting way to do so. The airport features two Little Free Libraries (LFLs) in its terminal, providing travelers and staff with easy access to free books.

These book-sharing boxes operate on a simple principle: “take a book, leave a book.” They bring a community feel to the airport, encouraging people to slow down, exchange stories, and discover new authors before boarding.

About Little Free Library

Little Free Library is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 in Hudson, Wisconsin. Started with a single book-sharing box, it has since grown to a global network of more than 200,000 registered LFLs in 128 countries, spanning all seven continents and 50 U.S. states.

The organization reports that around 400 million books have been exchanged worldwide. Its mission is to serve as “a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes.”

Joining the Movement

LFL envisions having a Little Free Library in every community. Their website offers resources to start your own library, and a map helps locate existing ones near you.

As an avid reader, I love all the LFLs in my neighborhood.

Summary: Little Free Libraries at Seattle-Tacoma Airport and worldwide foster community and love for reading by enabling easy book exchanges and connecting readers everywhere.
