Season 5 of “Stranger Things” is set to premiere later this month, sparking curiosity about what’s happening off-screen between the cast members. The young actors have grown up together, but questions about their real-life closeness continue to circulate.
In a 2023 interview with GQ, Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike Wheeler, clarified that despite their strong bond, the cast doesn’t stay in touch daily.
“We’re not on everyday-text vibes in any way,” he said. “Do you text your cousins every day? They’re our family. We’ll talk on each other’s birthdays. But if I ever needed anything, they’re there.”
The actor, now 22, also shared a lighthearted story about Winona Ryder.
“She’s one of the funniest texters ever, because she’ll text you and then you’ll text her back and then she won’t text you ever again.”
Ryder drew some attention in 2024 when she discussed her favorite co-stars, leaving out one notable name.
“I love the boys and I love Sadie [Sink] and Maya [Hawke],” she told Esquire in August 2024.
Her further remarks about younger cast members’ lack of interest in cinema prompted speculation about whom she was referring to.
“I don’t mean to sound so hopeless. There are a few that are just not interested in movies. Like, the first thing they say is, ‘How long is it?’”
Some fans believed that her comments might have been directed at Millie Bobby Brown, who earlier that year mentioned that she finds it difficult to sit through entire films.
The “Stranger Things” cast appears united yet distant, balancing fondness with independence as they navigate fame and adulthood.
