How New Coach Carr Is Driving Port Adelaide's Remodel

Josh Carr, about to lead his first official training session as Port Adelaide's head coach, expresses confidence about the club's future.

“There's a license for everyone in this building to explore and make everything better,” Carr said at the AFL club's Alberton headquarters. “And in the end, whoever has got the best ideas, we make that work.”

Carr finalized Port Adelaide’s new off-field team last week, marking the start of a fresh era with a 10-member coaching panel led by him, along with a new football manager, Ben Rutten, and a new fitness boss. Out of around a dozen staff, only two remained in their roles from the 2025 season.

“I have a pretty good idea on the people that we're bringing in,” Carr said after replacing 13-season coach Ken Hinkley. “I don't think it's going to be a huge task in bringing us together.
“Because I know, number one, is that they're all selfless in their approach to their coaching and they want to get better and they want to do what is best for the team.
“Last week we spent a lot of time about connecting as a coaching group.”

Carr emphasizes teamwork and the collective pursuit of improvement as key to the club’s progress.

Author’s summary: Josh Carr begins his tenure as Port Adelaide’s head coach with a refreshed and ambitious coaching team, focused on collaboration and continuous improvement for the club’s success.
