Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé was announced Thursday as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
At age 62, Elder Caussé has served as the church's presiding bishop for the past 11 years. He was called to the apostleship and ordained the same day by President Dallin H. Oaks, together with other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
"I've always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said in a church news release. "He's always been in the center of my life. And I know he's our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That's the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives."
He married Valérie Babin on August 5, 1986, in the church's Bern Switzerland Temple. Due to his church assignments, he and his family have lived in Germany and the United States.
Summary: Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France, has been called and ordained as a new apostle after 11 years as presiding bishop, emphasizing his lifelong testimony of Jesus Christ and broad international experience.
