Ukraine Enforces EU’s 19th Sanctions Package Targeting Russia

Ukraine has implemented the European Union's 19th package of sanctions against Russia, intensifying efforts to pressure Moscow amid its ongoing full-scale invasion.

President Zelenskyy's Announcement

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the adoption of the new sanctions in a statement on Telegram dated November 6. He emphasized Ukraine's close coordination with international partners to align sanctions laws.

“I have signed several new sanctions decisions. We continue synchronizing our partners’ sanctions within Ukrainian jurisdiction, and starting today, the EU’s 19th sanctions package against Russia for this war comes into effect in Ukraine.”

Expanding Sanctions Beyond the EU

Ukraine is also striving to have the EU sanctions echoed in other global jurisdictions to maximize the impact on Russian operations.

Targeting Russian Arctic Resource Extraction

Besides enforcing EU measures, Ukraine is preparing its own restrictions specifically focusing on Russian companies engaged in extracting Arctic resources. Zelenskyy highlighted the economic significance of this sector for Russia.

“This is a very profitable business for Russia. A significant portion of the resources the enemy sells annually is extracted in the Arctic regions—we’re talking about tens of billions of dollars a year. We are working with partners to ensure that, just like with the tanker fleet and Russian oil companies, they also target the full volume of resources sold by Russia from the Arctic.”

Summary

Ukraine is actively implementing EU sanctions and developing targeted measures to curb Russia's lucrative Arctic resource trade, amplifying international efforts against Russian aggression.
