Queen Camilla Honors War Dead at Annual Field of Remembrance
Queen Camilla participated in the annual Field of Remembrance service held in the grounds of Westminster Abbey, paying tribute to the nation’s war dead ahead of Remembrance Sunday. This event recognizes the sacrifices of those who fought and died in military service.
Return After Illness
The 78-year-old queen returned to the ceremony this year after missing last year's due to pneumonia. Upon arrival, she was welcomed by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Rev Dr David Hoyle.
Personal Tribute
During the service, Camilla laid a personal cross of remembrance among thousands displayed outside the Abbey. The small cross, bearing the inscription “In Remembrance” and decorated with a red poppy, was placed inside a larger floral cross.
The Queen and hundreds of veterans then fell silent as Big Ben struck 11 a.m.
The sound of the Last Post followed, after which a two-minute silence was observed. Camilla then engaged with attendees and volunteers while viewing around 40,000 tributes arranged within 229 plots.
