The Emory Wheel, Emory University's independent student newspaper since 1919, reports that after 40 years of hosting Commencement ceremonies on the campus Quadrangle, the University will move future graduation events to the Gas South District Arena and Convention Center in Duluth, Georgia.
The arena is located about 30 minutes northeast of Emory's Atlanta campus. This change applies to the University-wide Commencement ceremony, bachelor's degree diploma ceremonies, and large graduate and professional ceremonies.
“On April 25, police broke up a pro-Palestinian encampment and arrested 28 people, which took place about two weeks before that year’s Commencement.”
Emory University is relocating its Commencement ceremonies off-campus to better accommodate attendees after years of on-campus challenges including weather and unrest.
