Ward 6 prepares for transition as Schubert readies new staff

Ward 6 Prepares for Transition

As Tucson enters a new political phase in Ward 6, incoming City Councilmember Miranda Schubert will appoint an entirely new staff when she assumes office next month.

Staff Changes Announced

Outgoing Councilmember Karin Uhlich, who has served the midtown ward for two years after being appointed to replace Steve Kozachik, shared in her latest newsletter that her entire team will be replaced when Schubert takes office in December.

Emotional Transition for Chief of Staff

Diana Amado, Uhlich’s chief of staff and a longtime employee of the city, described the handover as emotional.

“This is definitely bittersweet, definitely for me,” Amado said.

Amado, the last member of Uhlich’s staff remaining in the office, has served in the Ward 6 office for 14 years.

“I’m here by myself, everyone else was offered jobs and they needed to move on,” she noted.

While many former staffers have accepted roles elsewhere in city government, Amado will stay to support a seamless transition to Schubert’s new team.

Collaborative Handoff Process

Schubert, who secured her seat in the August primary, said the staff transition has involved close cooperation.

“There’s gonna be a lot of overlap and a very soft transition from Karin’s team to ours,” Schubert stated. “We are in active communication already daily.”

Summary: The transition in Tucson’s Ward 6 involves a complete staff turnover as incoming Councilmember Miranda Schubert works closely with outgoing leadership to ensure continuity.
