Edgar Wright Reveals The Running Man's Secret Brolin Family Easter Egg With A Much Deeper Meaning

Edgar Wright Reveals Secret Brolin Family Easter Egg in The Running Man

Edgar Wright, director of The Running Man, shared an exclusive insight about a hidden Easter egg in the film connected to actor Josh Brolin and his family.

Hidden Connection in the Cast

Josh Brolin plays the villain, Dan Killian, in this adaptation of Stephen King's novel. Wright revealed that Josh's father, James Brolin, also appears in the movie, but in a unique way.

"Josh Brolin is not the only Brolin in this movie. By complete coincidence, his dad is in it as well," Wright explained.

How James Brolin Appears in the Film

Before Josh was cast, James Brolin was already part of the project through an archival clip from his old film Skyjacked, where he played a hijacker. The director used this clip in The Running Man.

"So we wrote that in. We got the clip cleared — and this was all before Josh Brolin was cast as Killian. And then when Josh Brolin was cast, I suddenly said to him, 'Hey, your dad’s in the movie too,' because James Brolin plays the hijacker in Skyjacked."
Significance of the Easter Egg

This subtle inclusion serves as a nod to the Brolin family, adding a meaningful layer to the film without overshadowing its main story.

Author's summary: Edgar Wright cleverly included a meaningful Easter egg connecting Josh Brolin and his father James in The Running Man, enriching the film's layers through family legacy.
