Long-time ITV Lorraine contributor Dr Hilary Jones opened up about a surprising moment from his early days on the show when he appeared live on air while slightly drunk. The 72-year-old doctor, a familiar face to viewers for his medical insights, recalled the incident with humour and honesty.
Dr Hilary shared that the moment happened after he had completed the New York Marathon and went out to celebrate with his brothers.
“I’d run the New York Marathon and met up with two of my brothers to celebrate. I hadn’t eaten or drunk water, and there was a lot of beer. I was scheduled to do a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine.”
As he tried to adjust to the remote studio setup, Dr Hilary suddenly found himself live on air. He described the moment as unexpectedly chaotic.
“All I remember was giggling, laughing and talking nonsense because I was actually a bit drunk. Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to fire me. What did I say?’”
Fearing he had made a serious mistake, Dr Hilary called the show’s producers the next day to apologise. To his surprise, the response was far more positive than expected.
“I phoned them and said, ‘I’m really sorry,’ and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant—happy, euphoric, energetic, and lovely.’ So, I got away with it.”
Dr Hilary Jones humorously recalled an early TV mishap during which he appeared tipsy on Lorraine’s show after celebrating his marathon run, only to be met with unexpected praise.
